A Review of "Survival of the Fairest" by Jody Wallace

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Not exactly. Not if fairy crown princess Talista has any say in the matter. She's took off on her own into the heart of Las Vegas, leaving of the safety of the Realm to find as many secrets about humans as she possibly can before her time runs out. The girl's got two weeks before she must return home or she comes down with "separation sickness", and just might not make it back.

Tali's a real "humanophile" and a bit of a rogue. Think Ariel the little mermaid meets Sarah Palin. She tries desperately to blend in, but doggone it, she just can't do it without the help of stage magician / good Samaritan Jake Story. Tali thinks it's smooth sailing now, but Jake's sexy as all get out and they share an instant spark of attraction--quite the distraction from her original plan.

Adding fuel to their budding romance is a real cat and dog chase when the head honcho of the Realm, Elder Embor, comes searching for her. It's all fun and games for Tali at first, until things take a dangerous turn with other treacherous fairies and gnomes on the loose.

What I liked most about this book are the unique voices Ms. Wallace gives to each character. She's nailed their parts so well, it was like I was right in their heads. I forgot I was reading a book much of the time. There's a real lighthearted feel to the whole story, even when things go from bad to worse. The love scenes are fantastic, especially the last one--wow!

The only things that didn't appeal to me were very minor. One particular plot aspect was quite predictable from the get-go, but it didn't disappoint in the end. Long passages of inner reflections and world building information slowed the pace a few times. And the last scene of the resolution seemed too drawn out, and then the end came too abruptly.

Or maybe it was just so good, I didn't want it to end that soon. Which could have been the case. But the only way you'll know is if you buy the book for yourself. Click the link below the cover and escape to Vegas with Survival of the Fairest!
